FTTH Optical Termination Box Functions

As the terminal equipment of the optical cable line, the FTTH termination box should have 4 basic functions.

The functions of the termination boxes：

1. Fixed function

After the optical cable enters the rack, fix outer sheath and reinforcing core mechanically, then install ground wire protection parts, which carry out end protection treatment and group the optical fibers.

2. Splicing function

The optical fiber is drawn from the fiber cable to splice ​​with the pigtail. Meanwhile, it provides space to store excess optical fiber and protect the splicing joint as well.

3. Adjustment function

Plug the connector of the pigtail to the adapter to realize the connection with the optical connector on the other side of the adapter. It allows us to insert and remove adapters and connectors flexibly, also the optical path can be freely deployed and tested.

4. Storage function

It provides storage for various cross-connected optical cables between racks, enabling them to be in a regular and orderly manner. There are a proper space and method in the fiber terminal box to make the wiring of the optical connection line clear, easy to adjust and meet the minimum bending radius.

Conclusion

With the development of optical fiber networks, the existing functions can meet many new requirements no longer. So some manufacturers add some fiber optic components(like optical splitters, wavelength division multiplexers, switches) directly to those fiber distribution boxes.
