Fiber Optic Couplers and Adapters
The Fiber Optic Adapter is the most essential component in fiber optic cabling. Also called fiber optic coupler, the function of these fiber adapters is to terminate the end of the fiber optic cable by connecting the mating connector. They can come in the version to connect a single fiber (simplex), two fibers (duplex) or 4 fibers (quad).
Due to the variety of fiber optic connector types, there are SC, LC, FC, ST, E2000 adapters. These adapters are designed for single-mode and multimode fiber cables. The single-mode fiber adapter is used for longer distances where less data is transferred, while the multimode fiber adapter is used for large data transfers over shorter distances. Single-mode fiber adapters are ideal for connecting devices in different offices or on the same data center backbone.
In addition, all fiber optic cable adapters offer the benefits of low insertion loss, good interchangeability and reproducibility.
